PC World has a great new article about getting your PC running
like new with these easy tips for clearing the crud out of Windows,
applications, and hardware. Youre not imagining things: It is
indeed taking you longer to load Windows, browse the Web, and run
your applications. Its as if your car took longer to get you
to work as it got older. You wouldnt stand for such
diminishing performance from your automobile, so why abide PC
slowdowns? Unless you built it yourself, your PC began picking up
unwanted junk long before you first connected to the Internet. The
people who made that shiny new PC loaded it with useless,
bandwidth-clogging software at the start. And it only gets worse as
you install programs, whether via download or off a disc. Read

QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Question: WHAT IS A
KERNEL32 ERROR?
Answer: According to Microsoft:
The KERNEL32.DLL file is a 32-bit dynamic link
library file that is found in Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows
Millenium Edition (ME). The KERNEL32.DLL file handles memory
management, input/output operations, and interrupts. When you start
Windows, KERNEL32.DLL is loaded into a protected memory space so
that other programs do not take over that memory space. On
occasion, you may receive an invalid page fault (IPF) error
message. This error message occurs when a program tries to access
the KERNEL32.DLL protected memory space. Occasionally, the error
message is caused by one particular program, and other times the
error message is provoked by multiple files and programs. If the
problem results from running one program, the program needs to be
replaced. If the problem occurs when you access multiple files and
programs, the damage is likely caused by damaged hardware. You may
want to clean boot the computer to help you identify the particular
third-party memory-resident software. Note that programs that are
not memory-resident can also cause IPF error messages. Read

This a great program! I used it to track down and remove 1GB of
temp garbage and other file on my C: drive. TreeSize tells you
where precious space has gone to. TreeSize can be started from the
context menu of a folder or drive and shows you the size of this
folder, including its subfolders. You can expand this folder in
Explorer-like style and you will see the size of every subfolder.
Scanning is done in a thread, so you can already see results while
TreeSize is working. The space, which is wasted by the file system
can be displayed and the results can be printed in a report.
TreeSize is Mailware for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP
Boot Deleter is an application that adds itself to the Windows
Explorer (shell) context menu and allows you to mark files and
folders to be deleted when Windows next restarts.
This will
allow you to easily remove items that are locked by running
applications. Items can also be marked for deletion by passing the
file/folder as a command-line argument or by dropping the item onto
the Boot Deleter executable icon.
