Yahoo
was started in 1994 by two college students named David Filo and
Jerry Yang. They started Yahoo as a way to keep track of their
personal interests on the Internet. Never did they imagine that
their online ventures would turn into one of the most recognized
brands on the Internet. The Yahoo directory quickly gained popularity
as the hot spot for finding useful Web sites. In the fall of 1994,
Yahoo had its first million-hit day, translating to almost 100
thousand unique visitors. Today, Yahoo is one of the top sites
on the internet, receiving over 345 million visitors every month.
Answer: In the considerably short time that Firefox
has been around, it has become a very popular browser and it might
just be your favorite. Some (like Mr. Gates) are still holding onto
Internet Explorer, but one of the great things that Firefox does
is allow you to customize your Internet experience as youd
like it to be, and not according to someone elses terms. It
lets you customize it until you have built the combination that
fulfills your most explicit Internet browsing fantasies. I could
go on and on about Firefox, but we already have other articles in
our archives that you can go through to get the idea. The bottom
line is that it has built a well deserved reputation for customization,
flexibility and extensive memory usage.
Microsoft
Malicious Software Removal Tool checks your computer for
infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including
Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps to remove the infection
if it is found. This tool will help to remove specific,
prevalent malicious software from infected systems. Because
computers can appear to function normally when infected,
Microsoft advises you to run this tool even if your computer
seems to be fine. In addition to using this tool, you
should use an up-to-date antivirus product to help protect
your computer from other malicious software.
With Advanced Shortcuts Composer you can create shortcuts
to run programs with a pre-defined destination, priority
and keyboard hotkeys to activate. This means that
you can: Select the destination where a program´s
shortcut will be created (Desktop, IE Favorites, SendTo
context menu, Start Menu, Start Menu Programs, Windows
Startup). Define the program´s (which a created
shortcut is corresponding) running priority (Low,
Below Normal, Normal, Above Normal, High, Realtime).
Set a preferable hotkeys´ combination (in order
to activate any created shortcut from your keyboard)
Streamripper
is an open source application that lets you record streaming
mp3 to your hard drive. This version includes a new feature,
the ability to rip from external metadata. It can be used
for recording streams that do not send artist or title
information using metadata, but instead send this information
using other means. For example, some streams update the
current artist and title using html or xml. Another example
is icecast 1.x, which sends metadata through a UDP socket.
Streamripper can get artist and title information from
these kinds of streams using a helper application, specified
using the -E option. The helper application needs to find
the title and artist info, and write it to stdout. Streamripper
reads the stdout of the helper program, and uses it to
split the tracks accordingly.
EndTask
Pro includes an advanced task manager, a new system
for blocking pop-up ads, and a system/Internet performance
monitor.
The task manager helps you detect and remove potential
spyware by monitoring their behavior in real time.
It also displays important information about running
processes such as process description and risk rating.
EndTask pop-up blocker hides pop-ups instead of
closing them. You´re given information when
a pop-up tries to launch, and you decide which ones
to show, thus you won´t lose the pop-ups you
want. It´s invisible to sites that try to
detect and foil blockers. Its design isn´t
based on a specific browser, so it will work on
most computers.
